fabulous bottling from one of the Highlands' best distilleries. Not nearly as well known as it deserves because most of its production goes into Johnnie Walker Gold, it is nonetheless treasured by aficionados. The trademark Clynelish brininess--the result of it coming from a coastal distillery--is more subdued here, perhaps because of its age, but is more than compensated for by its elegance and polish. It's sweet and gentle in the front of the mouth, but then it explodes with a huge array of fresh fruit flavors before finally revealing its briny peaty characteristics in the long aftertaste. This beguiling, hugely complex whisky is available only in limited quantities from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
