The regular bottling of Cragganmore is one of the best Speysides around, an appealingly complex malt, but this limited edition is something special. The Cragganmore of 20 years ago was far more heavily peated than today's version, and this rare bottling clearly shows the older, smokier style--so much so that it could easily be mistaken for a light Islay whisky. It's pale for a Speyside, and the first impression is of intense toffee and butterscotch, but these soon give way to flavors of cedar, leather and cigar box. There's a wonderful complex combination of sweet and dry in the mouth, with a long, lingering, smoky finish.
