Links to Pro-Women Rights Websites on the Net- compiled by krasiva.com

Below I have compiled some links to websites on the Internet that I have come across in my quest for "woman" on the Net. Some are impressive, some are pathetic. I open with some scathing remarks... But please understand that I am an idealist and a pro-woman rights activist... this sarcasm is only meant in good faith...

» NOW - National Organization for Women: the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been "to take action" to bring about equality for all women.

» Phenomenal Women of The Web (POTW): A pathetic attempt to I don't even know what- may be glorify women who are breaking into the Internet Industry ? The CREED is pathetic..." Here is a line I stole from the 'creed' that made my stomach turn:

"... Sure, she can be a Nurse, but why not be the Doctor, or be the Lawyer instead of the Secretary?..."

When Ihear that Doctor-Lawyer thing I get sick... Wake up people... Is becoming a doctor or a lawyer the Path to Enlightenment or something ? (I grew up in Lebanon where every parents "dream" for their son or daughter is to be a Lawyer, Doctor or Engineer.)

The commercialism of this website is so cheap it's disgusting... here's a quote from their "Official POTW Merchandise":

"T-shirts that say: "I am a Phenomenal Woman!", tank tops, sweatshirts, caps, mugs, mousepads and much more! All displaying the official logo, look & feel of the PWOTW. Perfect for your PHENOMENAL self or friends! ALL T-shirts are available to 6XL."

I didn't know there are XXXXXXL t-shirts out there. SOME phenomenal women must wear those... WARNING: Any bimbo that walks down my street with a t-shirt that says "I am a Phenomenal Woman" better expect no less than being egged from head to toe.

» About-Face: A San Fransisco based group, About-Face combats negative and distorted images of women. A very respectable site. Worth checking out.

» UNDELETE.ORG: A PRESENTATION OF IRENE STUBER AND WiiN: THE WOMEN'S INTERNET INFORMATION NETWORK A great website about Women of Achievement throughout "HIS-tory". Website founder asserts that great women have been obliterated from history by the men who wrote it. A call for women to UNDELETE their past. Great statistics and bios of some truely phenomenal women.

» Arab Women Solidarity Association: Two thumbs up for this pro-arab woman rights site. An international non-profit organization, AWSA promotes Arab women's active participation in social, economic, cultural, and political life. Among other things, AWSA exposes mistreatment of women like in cases of "Honor Killings" in some arab countries, highlights the bios of some great Arab women - both contemporary and throughout history (like Khadijah, one of the Prophet Mohammed's wives), has a poetry section, organizes activities, features a Forum and a mailing list. Arab women unite!

» The Nine Nobel Women: A great page from the official website of the Nobel Foundation about the Nine Heroines of Peace - women who won the Nobel Peace Prize throughout history.

» Article from L'Oreal's PR Office on Women In Science: (click on previous link to download zipped pdf file) L'Oreal and UNESCO have a partnership called "For Women In Science" whose mission is to honour and give visibility to women in science whom they consider to be essential for the advancement of this field which they consider fundamental for human development. This article has some amazing stats and bios on women in science.
