Hanoi's
"mad artist". Born in 1960, graduated from Hanoi's School of Fine Arts
in 1986. A prolific painter, Dung works primarily in gouache, creating
abstract figures and compositions much influenced by Chagall and Miro.
Also paints farm animals based on traditional Vietnamese designs. Unique
in Vietnam as painter who employs strong, vibrant colors. Often refuses
to be exhibited, though his paintings are popular with foreign collectors
frequenting the one gallery in Saigon that was able to rescue pieces from
being burned by the artist himself.
If you know
anything about the artist's state of mine when he painted Reclining Nude,
please let me know.
