I am writing you to invite you to a fund-raising dinner that the American University of Beirut Alumni Association of North America (AANA), Southern California Chapter is organizing on June 1, 2002, at 8:00 PM. The dinner is going to be on the decks of the beautiful docked ship Queen Mary overlooking the panoramic Long Beach harbor. We are planning to have featured speakers - most prominent of which is going to be Mr. Hustler (little one line bio-blurb here), an AUB alumnus who donated 10 million dollars to AUB - Lebanese food, music, dancing, poetry reading, and a photo exhibit from Lebanon (organized by moi).

 

The proceedings of the event are going to support the college fund at AUB. Tough economic conditions in post-war Lebanon, have made the high-caliber education of AUB beyond the financial capabilities of the families of many talented students. This scholarship fund is designed to help many aspiring and talented students achieve their dreams of an AUB education.

 

The AUB is a private, independent non-sectarian institution of higher learning, established in 1866 in Beirut, under a charter from the state of New York. Since then, the AUB has acted as a safe haven to critical thinking, open debate and mutual tolerance. It has set the standards in higher education for the middle east region and acts as a very important bridge between East and West.

 

AUB alumni in North America have excelled in their various fields of expertise ranging from Law, Engineering, Medicine, Business, Science, Politics, Acting, and Art. They have made significant contributions in all walks of life and are living proof as to the greatness of our country Lebanon, our people, and our alma mater.

 

So in the spirit of AUB’s slogan “That they may have life, and have it more abundantly”, join us at this dinner to mingle with and meet AUB alumni, have good food, dance, and enjoy our Lebanese cultural heritage and most importantly support AUB.
