Part of the Rare Editions expansion of Diageo's Classic Malts range, this is an astounding whisky. It sounds impossible, but even on the nose I could smell its complexity and just knew this was a very unusual dram. Although it still has Dalwhinnie's hallmark grassy, heathery characteristics, this is far from a typical Highland malt. In its rich, subtle intensity it shows how, while age is not everything in a great whisky, in the right circumstances, such as here, it can yield astounding results. Incredibly elegant and complex, powerful yet subtle, with deep layers of flavor. I found myself being drawn in by the almost mystical depths of this wonderful whisky.
