Rami Elias Kremesti: Book Author from High Wycombe, UK
Introduction
Hi my name is Rami Elias Kremesti, I am a book author based out of High Wycombe in the UK. I was born in Beirut, Lebanon in the mid seventies and I grew up during the Lebanese Civil War. My childhood was not easy. I studied hard in my teens and took to the sea to fish, snorkel, swim and relax. My dad was a kind, honest man, a pharmaceutical rep in Beirut. My mom did her best to make ends meet. Me and my sisters we were all privately educated in school and university.
I graduated with my B.Sc. in Chemistry from the American University of Beirut in 1995 with a minor in Philosophy. Since then, I have not stopped reading or writing. I am a polyglot and I have travelled extensively.
Nietzsche was one of the first authors that I was mesmerised by. His attack on herd mentality and obsession with the Uber-Mensch resonated with me. I wanted to become an Uber-Mensch. His books are fascinating, but in the midst of their pages, you can fall into the Abyss of Existentialism: that view of the world which is materialistic, atheistic, depressing and ignorant of the sweet joy of Love. I fell into this trap. Many years later I was saved by the books of Rumi and realised Nietzsche was a lost soul. I studied English literature in High School, Shakespeare and William Blake, the great Arab poets, but Rumi is at a different level.
Published Books
My first book, The Other Cheek of Islam came out in 2020 published with Europe Books. It is a book about the Rumi interpretation of Islam which is love-centric and mystical. It shies away from dogma and violent Jihad. I have translated and published many of Rumi’s poems into Arabic. Rumi’s poetry is magical. There is a longing in there that is sooo deep it shatters the soul. This longing for Unity with the Beloved is what makes the Universe dance…. There are verses in there about Love that can make the hairs on your back stand on end. Makes you wonder what is this mystery of Love… In one of his verses, he says, if you know Love, You Know God. If you don’t know what love is, no proof is good enough for you.
My second book is titled For Love of the Sacred Awe which is a compilation of photography and aesthetic stories. It came out in 2021 also with Europe Books. You can view my online Photography Portfolio at the following link. I borrowed the title from Nikoas Kazantsakis’s book Zorba The Greek. In it, Kazantsakis talks about The Sacred Awe as one of the highest states of Being. Some of the photos that I took in my life, where such beautiful moments when I felt that Sacred Awe… So much so that at one point in my life I thought that photography is my calling. I used to take a lot of photos in Los Angeles, California where I lived the Bohemian life. I even worked at a photography studio for a while.
My third book, MegaloPsychia: The Other Cheek of Judaism is about the accomplishments of great Jewish people throughout history and in all walks of life. It came out in 2024. The book tries to dismantle anti-Semitic stereotypes and bring the Abrahamic faiths closer together. This is also part of the mission of my website AMALID. I borrowed the title from Aristotle’s concept of the MegaloPsychos, the man or woman with a Great Soul. I studied about Kabbalah for many years, and I listened to the talks of some great Jewish Rabbis such as Zalman Shlachter Shalomi and Rabbi Elyahu Kin. There is a depth in the religion of Judaism and the Book of the Torah that is mind boggling. My visit to Israel in 2023 was filled with beautiful memories.
Finally, Some Random Thoughts
If you are thinking about writing a book these days, don’t do it. It is not environmentally friendly and there is nothing new to say under the sun. Even digital books have a negative environmental impact. They sit on data servers that consume energy and water for cooling. Besides, there is nothing new to say… We are glutted by information. We are in the age of the despotism of Positivity as German-Korean philosopher Han says. Happy, smiley, superficial faces on TV and Instagram and the world is reeling from suffering… It is disgusting.
What you really need to seek is to transform your soul first, do some good deeds, give up your wealth and luxury living if you can, enjoy solitude, be humble… Then people will automatically write and quote you just like they did with Jesus. Flowers will sprout from your grave. Miracles will happen.
